Back Again
This film is a personal project that explores the feeling of revisiting and finding peace in a rural Minnesotan childhood. It is a film made with the term “video poetry” in mind, as I specifically wanted to make something without a set storyline, but still follows a general narrative. Something that evokes a sense of sentimental bittersweetness, and silent appreciation for where I come from.

Wander
This song inspired me to create a video on how people bottle up their emotions until they eventually fall apart . The first part of Wander is intentionally blurry because it signifies the emotions the character is holding with her. Towards the end it becomes un blurry to signify her emotions all pouring out. The flower is to represent her coming to terms with her imperfection.

Torii
The film I created is about feeling unsure about who I am as an artist. For all of my life, art has been. All my life art to me was about technical ability and aesthetics. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve felt that my work feels empty and boring. This film takes place in a barn, with the person in the film wanting to leave the barn through the door. I made the door lead outside, having the light shine through the cracks of the door. Leaving the barn to me would be to leave my small town and find who I am. Maybe reaching some kind of “enlightenment” I guess. Moving to Minneapolis felt like finally beginning a new part of my life, like finally leaving the barn. But in this film, knowing I was moving away soon, I felt so close to this new beginning. But I wasn’t there yet, causing the barn door I finally reached to be locked. I guess I just couldn’t wait. My dream is to be a professional artist, but I don't want to be someone who works to create someone else's art. I want to tell my story and tell stories I feel are interesting. I feel with my focus on the aesthetic side art, it feels like something you look at on Instagram for 3 seconds and forget about in 10 minutes, which I just feel isn't fulfilling. I shot my film with my DSLR camera, and edited it in Davinci Resolve. I also added a small amount of 2D animation because I enjoy doing many different mediums. Each shot of the film has a bit of a different look from the last so I feel the film doesn’t have a consistent look, but that was more intentional representing how more recently I’ve been doing so many different things, experimenting with what I like, as well as the fact that I’m not sure what I like, or who I am as an artist. I also created the music for the film kind of out of necessity. The music I originally wanted to use just didn’t work with my film so I decided to make it myself.

Out Of Sight Out Of Mind
Out Of Sight Out Of Mind is a cartoon about creative process and change. The main character of this story is Me, and what I was like when I was younger and how I tried to express myself and implemented my art in my everyday life. However, I was awkward, fearful and inconsiderate. All these elements of this character are shown by her lack of facial expressions and her body language. When she finds an advertisement about free therapy she’s more excited about it being “Free.” If given the chance again with it costing a few bucks or so, she would not be as invested and would have never considered therapy in the first place. When she goes to the address in the newspaper advertisement, it's a sketchy and dirty apartment complex. She's hesitant but the idea of “Free” in her mind is what keeps her going. A man opens the door, a man with a bulging head, a creepy smile that goes from ear to ear, a man that doesn’t even look close to the image that's on his advertisement! The worst thing about this..thing is the large pulsating veins that are engraved on its forehead…“Tinny.” What kind of funked up name is that? This terrifying experience is a chance for her to reflect on her person, who she used to be, who she is and what she will become. For better or worse. With all the imagery I incorporated in this piece, I wanted to focus on how experiences and knowledge help you grow as a person, no matter if they are negative, positive or neutral. Because change is inevitable and I really wanted to express that in every aspect of this piece. Change is scary, change is enjoyable, change is boring, change is freedom, change is life.
Under the Shadow of His Eyes
I see the male gaze everywhere. It is in movies, photography, social media, books, advertisements, and clothing catalogs. I have experienced the discomfort that comes with being subjected to the male gaze more times than I can count. For me, I feel shocked, ashamed, vulnerable, and analyzed under the microscope of female objectification—a feeling I share with thousands of other women, but that nonetheless feels inherently lonely. My artwork deconstructs the male gaze through an experimental film that visually represents the emotions and sensations that come with being objectified, while using a nonsexual lens to view the female body. My film tells 50 women’s stories and shared experiences collected from recorded interviews. Each of the 50 women has a voice in the film, and their voices are pieced together to show a collective understanding of what it means to experience and overcome the male gaze. While I don’t believe it is possible for anyone to represent “the woman experience” because experience is dependent on culture, context, location, and a slew of other factors, I want to get as close as I can so women feel less isolated and men have a better understanding of the impacts of their conscious and subconscious actions.
A house in Annandale
This short was made over the summer of 2023, which I personally spent driving from Minneapolis to Annandale to support my younger cousin, while watching him go through similar experiences in the same house that I grew up in. This video, in a way, was made to process the bitter sweetness of nostalgia, and my role in being there for him as well as my family. It was all shot on a Smartphone camera and converted to black and white in order to capture a documented feeling of ambient memory.

Remembering Spring
Remembering Spring is about finding hope during the dark winter season when warmer weather and longer days seem distant. As the narrator moves blankly through her days in the winter, as many people do, she encounters the physical embodiment of Spring sitting in her living room. Spring takes her on a dream-like journey through a budding forest, and the narrator rekindles her hope and ability to find beauty in small things. Spring’s outfit is made with homemade dyes created from spinach, red cabbage, blueberries, and turmeric, all of which have been hand-painted onto her clothes to make them appear as natural as possible and to show her connection to the natural world.

The Dark Man in My Room
My thoughts for this project is a girl struggling with schizophrenia. My film walks through the ups and downs of her life living with this illness. It shows how often your life can shift from being simple, to being on edge. It ends abruptly so the viewer can only assume what will happen next. Overall it’s just a day in the life but with a twist.
Stages of Grief
"Stages of Grief" is a film about a teenage girl named Abby who is dealing with the suicide of her friend Erika. Throughout the film, Abby learns to deal with Grief and loss. I created this film to show that people grieve differently and it is not an easy process to go through but eventually you can and will overcome it.
